The Disinformation Campaign Targets SFS in an Attempt to Victimize the Maduro Regime
WASHINGTON D.C. – The Center for a Secure Free Society (SFS) is a leading think tank that investigates transnational crime and its convergence with criminalized states and extra-regional actors. SFS investigations play a central role in exposing the most significant threats to the Western Hemisphere.
The Tren de Aragua Activity Monitor (TdA Monitor) is part of our effort to aggregate publicly available information. Although the TdA Monitor serves as a reference for TdA’s presence in the United States, it is not a primary source. We based each entry on reporting by recognized U.S. media outlets and/or official communications from federal, state, or local authorities (including police departments, prosecutors, ICE, and other verified sources). Claims that the Monitor records “fabricated” or “inflated” cases are incorrect and unsupported.
Media outlets later removed the original links, affecting only five entries. At the time we added those entries, four different Texas outlets had the stories online; their editors subsequently chose to take them down. SFS played no role in those editorial decisions. Regardless, these incidents represent a small fraction of the total number of cases we have tracked in the United States and do not change the overall picture the Monitor presents.
We categorically reject any insinuation of data manipulation. This disinformation contributes to a narrative that portrays Nicolás Maduro’s regime and its associated criminal organizations as victims.
