About Steven D. Barbieri
Steven D. Barbieri is a professional senior intelligence analyst with broad experience in Latin America and the Caribbean, specializing in security cooperation, interagency cooperation and countering transnational organized crime. His military and federal service career expands forty years, combining strategic and operational intelligence.
While working at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), his work centered around international intelligence cooperation among partner nations in the Western Hemisphere, with emphasis on maritime domain awareness, counternarcotics, cybersecurity, and illegal unreported and unregulated fishing. There, he also worked as an all-source analyst in the Counter Narcotics Division, providing intelligence analysis support to multiple agencies in the intelligence community, to include the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Joint Interagency Task Force South, the Department of Homeland Security, and also served as the ONI liaison to the Office of National Drug Control Policy. While in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, he served at the U.S. Southern Command as a Senior Operations Intelligence Non-commissioned Officer.
His military and federal service positions afforded him multiple deployment opportunities to support missions at the U.S. embassies in Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and Ghana. At the beginning of his federal service career, he served as a bilingual research technician at the Defense Attaché Office in Lisbon, Portugal, then as a Staff Assistant at the National Security Council. Steven earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Connecticut.
