SFS visits Toronto, Canada for 2nd annual Future of North America Forum

Toronto, Canada – The SFS Team returned to Canada for our Future of North America Forum series this past week.  In changing the venue from last year’s event on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, this year we conducted the event at the historic Albany Club in downtown Toronto.

In addition to the forum, members of our SFS Team appeared in-studio on national television interviews at Sun News Network, Canadian Broadcasting Company, and China Central Television, while also conducting a radio interview on Toronto’s top radio talk show, CFRB Newstalk 1010 AM.

In continuing to explore how the U.S., Canada and Mexico can better work together for prosperity in an increasingly competitive global market, this year we took a look at two shared continental threats —  Energy and Immigration Security. Both are rising in importance throughout North America.

SFS Executive Director Testifies In Congress on Iran’s Extending Influence in Latin America

WASHINGTON, D.C.– On Tuesday, July 9th, 2013, SFS Executive Director Mr. Joseph M. Humire testified in Congress at the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee hearing on “Threats to the Homeland: Iran’s Extending Influence in the Western Hemisphere,” and released the findings of his years long investigation at a press conference earlier that morning at the National Press Club.

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), sponsor of the Countering Iran in the Western Hemisphere Act, chaired the subcommittee hearing and remarked, “Iran’s willingness to conduct operations in the Western Hemisphere and on American soil is clear.”

The hearing was held in response to the June 26th release of the U.S. State Department’s declassified annex of a largely classified report on Iran’s influence in Latin America. The State Department’s conclusion contradicted Argentine Special Prosecutor Alberto Nisman’s highly detailed 502-page report published in late May, which asserts Iran has systematically built a “clandestine intelligence network” throughout the region over the last thirty years “designed to sponsor, foster and execute terrorist attacks.”… Continue Reading »

A great success — SFS Panel & Reception for U.S. Russia Reset Button

Thanks to everyone for attending our SFS Panel & Reception to hear more about the U.S.-Russia Reset Button on Thursday, May 9th, Russia’s “Victory Day.”  Held in our shared offices with the American Foreign Policy Council, we enjoyed an excellent turnout, with roughly 50 attendees including guests, speakers and staff.

The panel of Dr. Evgueni Novikov, J. Patrick Murray, E. Wayne Merry and moderator Josh Rogin presented an informative range of views on the complexity of U.S.-Russia relations, and the pros and cons of working more closely with Russia on counterterrorism efforts.

To see some of the opinions reflected at our event, please see the column that Evgueni and I co-authored for Fox News Opinion.
